Ictinogomphus australis - the Austalian Tiger - is not often encountered on the mid-north coast of NSW. I glimpsed one at Red Rock in March 2011 in woodland but my first good view was at a pool next to a service station in the middle of Macksville! Recently, I watched a male hunting from a perch at Red Rock. He would fly low over the water and usually return to the same perch, in this case a frogmouth (Philydrum lanuginosum).
