GOLDEN TIGERTAIL
Family Synthemistidae
December the 8th 2014 was a lucky day. It had been mostly cloudy with storms and rain for the past week but the sun managed to come out quite a lot on this day. I took my camera on my daily walk across the bottom flat at our property at Deer Vale and as I approached the ford on the 2nd creek I noticed a yellow and black Tigertail which I thought was the fairly common Swamp Tigertail. However when I saw the much more extensive yellow abdominal markings I knew it was something different. It also had a dorsal yellow mark on the synthorax which was larger than the one usually seen on the variable Tigertail. It was a lovely female specimen of the Golden Tigertail. It landed on grass stalks close to the ground and stayed around long enough for me to photograph it from various angles.
